Wisconsin Literacy hosted its 6th Annual Celebration of Literacy at the Edgewater Hotel in Madison on Thursday, May 8, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in celebration of award-winning adult learners, tutors and literacy advocates in Wisconsin.
Thank you to all who showed your support of Wisconsin Literacy through donations, attendance at the Celebration and participation in our Great Escapes Silent Auction and WI Author Book Raffle. Funds raised from this special event will help Wisconsin Literacy continue to support its 54 member agencies throughout the state.
The keynote speaker was Wisconsin’s award-winning writer Michael Perry, author of “Population: 485” and “Truck: A Love Story.” Perry shared some of his great adventures as a writer and Wisconsinite from New Auburn. As in past years, First Lady Jessica Doyle presented the awards.
The following awards were presented to celebrate success in literacy across the state: Outstanding Adult Literacy Learner of the Year, Outstanding English Language Learner of the Year, Courage Award for Achievement in a Correctional Setting, The First Lady Jessica Doyle Award for Family Literacy, Outstanding Achievement in a Workplace Literacy Program, Tutor of the Year, and Literacy Advocate of the Year.
Thank you to the following generous sponsors for enabling Wisconsin Literacy to host an inspiring evening of literacy, literature and adventures!
