Wisconsin Literacy’s
1200 Tutors in 12 Weeks campaign, which ended on Dec. 1, 2009, resulted in recruitment and training of 898 new volunteer tutors at 36 literacy agencies in Wisconsin. The campaign was sponsored by Verizon and the Alliant Energy Foundation.
According to a recently completed survey by Wisconsin Literacy member agencies, volunteer tutors provided 203,586 hours of service to 13,290 adult learners at community-based literacy agencies in Wisconsin last year. There are currently 637 learners on waiting lists for services from Wisconsin Literacy member agencies.
There is a need to reach more potential volunteer tutors to meet the demand for literacy services. Our member agencies do an incredible job serving so many adults with such limited resources. They provide a valuable community benefit with the help of trained volunteer tutors.
Wisconsin Literacy encourages you to consider the gift of literacy for the more than 1.5 million Wisconsin residents in need of literacy services. Most tutors volunteer one-to-three hours a week, often providing life changing results for adult learners. For more a list of member agencies, visit
