Actress Mia Kirshner’s presentation on her new book,
I Live Here: Stories Can Change the World, part of the Wisconsin Book Festival, is being sponsored by Wisconsin Literacy. The event will be held at the
Orpheum Theatre in Madison, on Sunday, Oct. 19 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, with no reservations needed.
Mia Kirshner is a well-known Canadian actress who has performed in American TV productions and movies since 1990. Her book is part of her effort to establish creative writing programs for marginalized people worldwide. The book itself is told through Kirshner’s travel journals as well as the writings of displaced women and children, in their own words or retold by noted authors.
Wisconsin Literacy provides support, training and advocacy for 58 adult literacy programs statewide. Many of the programs serve refugees who have moved to Wisconsin from around the world who are looking to improve their writing as well as other essential literacy skills.
