Wisconsin Literacy Receives Grant to Address Health Literacy Barriers

August 19, 2008
Madison, WI – Wisconsin Literacy received a grant from the American Academy of Family Physicians to work with Omega School, a local Wisconsin Literacy member, and St. Mary’s Hospital. The grant will look at barriers adults with low literacy and limited English skills face as they navigate hospital care. The long-term goal of this project is to develop a model for hospitals and adult literacy learners to work together to address health literacy barriers.

Wisconsin Literacy works to raise awareness of the impact of low literacy on the state’s economy and the benefits to businesses, families and communities of adult literacy services. The non-profit organization also provides support and training to 56 adult literacy programs statewide.
