Join Wisconsin Literacy for its
Pathways to Employment: Preparing Wisconsin's Job Seekers conference at the
Jefferson Street Inn, located in Wausau, Wisconsin. This one-day workforce training conference will take place on Friday, October 5, 2012, and will help build bridges to workforce training programs at literacy agencies, at technical colleges, at refugee agencies, in the workplace, and in the community for workers with low job skills and academic or income barriers to success.
REGISTRATION CLOSES ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH.
Through a workplace literacy program offered by WL member agency
Literacy Volunteers-Chippewa Valley, adult learners gain the skills
they need to qualify for a certificate as a Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Here, the students are learning to use the Hoyer lift
to assist a patient getting in and out of her chair.
What Makes This Conference Unique?
Career pathways training programs with dual track academic preparedness and job training are being instituted throughout the United States. This conference is unique because it focuses on the entry-level bridge programs into career pathways and other job training programs for those workers who have barriers to success. The conference is organized to serve professionals interested in or involved with employment training programs at literacy agencies, community based organizations (CBOs), job centers, and technical colleges.
The Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Barry Shaffer, retired Minnesota State Director of Adult Education and Co-director, Minnesota FastTRAC Initiative. FastTRAC is an innovative approach to help educationally underprepared adults succeed in well-paying careers by integrating basic skills education and career-specific training in fields where new skills are in high demand.

- CBO program directors, refugee case managers and trainers in both rural and urban settings looking for workforce training programs to meet lower skilled job seekers.
