Wisconsin Literacy held its 8th Annual Celebration of Literacy on April 27th at the Monona Terrace in Madison. We welcome you to visit our Facebook page for some photos.
This year’s keynote speaker for the luncheon was award-winning Wisconsin author Jane Hamilton. The Celebration of Literacy raised funds to support 61 literacy programs throughout the state while also celebrating the accomplishments of outstanding learners, tutors and literacy advocates.
The following awards were presented to celebrate success in literacy across the state: Outstanding Adult Literacy Learner of the Year, Outstanding English Language Learner of the Year, Courage Award for Achievement in a Correctional Setting, The First Lady Jessica Doyle Award for Family Literacy, Outstanding Achievement in a Workplace Literacy Program, Outstanding Achievement in Health Literacy, Tutor of the Year, and Literacy Advocate of the Year.
First Lady Jessica Doyle received a Lifetime Achievement in Literacy Award for her statewide service to literacy. The First Lady has championed numerous efforts that promote education for our state’s youth, visited countless schools in Wisconsin to encourage a strong foundation in reading and writing, and visited many of our community-based adult literacy member programs to show her support of their work.
